It is that time again, where many want to set a resolution for the new year. I always get the same question around this time: How do I get started? I thought I would make a quick guide to help anyone get started. Now this shouldn’t be just a quick resolution, so aim for at least a full year of juicing/cleansing. I am on year 3 and I do not plan to stop as I feel it is just part of my daily life now.
Step#1: Buy a good juicer that makes this easy!
The Breville Juice Fountain: The most powerful, fast and easy juicer out there! Put a baggie in the catcher, rinse off the parts when done. Scrub just the blade/mesh basket with soap and water. Done!
The article link above provides some excellent information on how to check your colon health and to keep it as healthy as possible. I do a beet transit test each Sunday as part of my mock fecal transplant therapy that I have posted about many times.
For a normal human you should start to see beet red stool after about 18-24 hours of consuming it. When you have cleansed everything out as I have mentioned before, you see that much faster and you know you are now clear.
This test can tell you a lot of things.
If you never see the beets: you are really constipated and slow moving in the gi.
If you see it too quickly and you have not cleansed, you have IBS-D active.
If you see it in about 12+ hours, you are doing pretty well.
Here is my recipe for today and it was pretty tasty also:
Beet Transit Juice + Choice probiotic
3 small/med beets
1/2 bag cranberries
Coconut water to taste
Please consider the weekly cleanse. I cleanse out with herbal and PH water. I drink this juice and take probiotics to reseed the gi tract.
The control of your immune system depends on a healthy digestive tract. A healthy digestive tract has a good balance of bacteria. When you eat or drink something that disturbs this balance, the bad bacteria begin to take over. When this bad bacteria overtakes your digestive system, your immune system begins the usual attack. As you continue to eat the wrong things your immune system constantly attacks the bad and even the good bacteria. This causes the inflammation and everything that comes with Crohn’s/Colitis.

2 inch ginger – Everything else!!!

This recipe is meant for your overall health. It has ingredients that treat a wide range of health problems and works to prevent future ones from happening. It works to alkalize your body if you eat processed foods that turn acidic. It will also help to give you energy and possible weight loss depending on your diet.
10oz coconut water = Hydration
2 pears = Sweet base/anti-inflammatory
1 large beet = Blood cleanse
1-2 oranges = Sweet base/immunity
2-3 Kale leaves = Alkalize/detox/immunity
1 handful of spinach = Colon Cleanse

Many people have made the comment “you must spend a ton of $$$ juicing fruits, veggies and herbs”. I do spend a good amount per week, but I come from a background of taking pills for 5 years and that cost was greater. Let’s take a look at what the monthly bill was for drugs:
Pentasa x8 per day = $40.00
Endocort x3 per day = $12.00
IBS med x2 per day = $12.00
IBS night time med x2 per day = $12.00
Pentasa Suppositories x1 per day = $40.00
Doctor at least 1x per month = $30-$70 copay
Total monthly was about $150.00 and I still did not feel much better. This works out to be about 9,000 over a 5 year period of time. This is just an estimate and some months I did spend less and some more.
Now on to the juicing side of things. I am saving money on not buying any medication or going to the doctor. My juicer cost me $149 one time. Here would be my weekly list for juicing supplies: Mostly organic at Trader Joes!!

This all comes out to around 35 dollars each week depending on deals. I also feel energized doing it this way and I feel good about not putting poison into my body constantly. I think the choice is clear.
I keep reading the same article on the internet that doctors are not trained what so ever in nutrition. They are trained to diagnose symptoms and give you pills. They are not here to fully heal you. Sometimes you have to go out on your own and make it happen for yourself!
One reason that many people cannot heal from Crohn’s is that they only avoid trigger foods that cause flare up symptoms. It is important to identify these using a food diary and everyone is different. Eliminating trigger foods is only part of the solution. I did this for many years before becoming “aware” of other ingredients other than dairy or wheat. These other ingredients are ones that you see in everything and some that you cannot even pronounce. As you avoid your trigger foods, you are still consuming harmful chemicals that may be the one thing that started it all! These chemicals disturb the balance of flora and I believe that medical science will one day identify the offending chemicals that disturb the immune system causing auto-immune disease.
Below are ingredients that my family and I personally avoid and some real health ailments that they cause.
Hydrogenated Oils = Trans fats, weight gain
White (Bleached) Flour = It is actually bleached white!! Also turns to acid in the body
High Fructose Corn syrup = Disturbs hormone levels, weight gain, turns to acid when digested
Diet anything = Actually tricks your body into craving more sugar – (Aspertame)
Sodium Benzoate And Potassium Benzoate = Known Carcinogen
BHT/BHA = A cancer causing preservative
Sodium Nitrate = Colon Cancer!!!
Red 40, Blue 1, = Brain, thyroid cancer, ADHD
MSG = Chemically makes your brain think the food tastes better
If you do not believe this, by all means do a quick search. You will be emptying your food cabinets soon enough as you too become “aware” because these are in EVERYTHING!! Start becoming a label reader and get this stuff out of your diet. Pair that with juicing and you are on your way to healing and becoming medicine free!
In addition to your juice being anti-inflammatory for Crohn’s Disease, it is important to add elements that will kill bacteria and fungi. One of the problems along with inflammation is the imbalance of good and bad bacteria. A smart combination daily will really purify your system. These juices are taking aim at the cause and treating the symptoms at the same time.
One day in the distant future, doctors will finally catch on about how our western diet has caused many of our chronic health problems. If fact, they probably know this already because they are smart, but they also know that this knowledge will not make them money. The drug companies definitely know about this! This food to disease link seems so obvious to me. When you eat food it physically touches the walls of your intestines and gets absorbed. If it contains bad ingredients in it, it will harm your body. Over time, if you eat this same harmful food, you will develop chronic disease. I am not a doctor and I think this is pretty easy to understand.
When you look at countries like India and China, you see a sharp decrease in Crohn’s Disease and other chronic illness. The reason is that they eat a completely different diet than we do. How can this be? They are human just like us and live on Earth. They eat real food and not processed chemical infused food. In the previous post, it stated that in Japan Crohn’s Disease is rising because of the influence of western foods(processed/fast foods).
This food that contains a paragraph of ingredients is the cause of autoimmune disease. Yes, I said it! You consume this food on a daily basis, it turns to acid, the chemicals disturb your gut flora and create an imbalance. The immune system depends on this delicate balance and starts to attack everything. The vicious cycle of inflammation starts to occur and you take massive amounts of pills to suppress it. You continue to eat the food that harms the balance of flora and the cycle continues until you have surgery.
When I found out about all the crazy food ingredients to avoid and eliminated them from my diet completely, I stopped the attack on my gut flora. I began to juice the very fruits and veggies that I was avoiding and flooded my body with enzymes, vitamins, prebiotics and probiotics. The harmful bacteria was flushed out and the good bacteria replaced it. My symptoms vanished and I felt amazing in just a few days without medicine. My body is now able to heal itself! It is designed to do that. The next time your doctor says “food hasnothing to do with it, just take your medication”. Walk out, because that doctor is not doing the research and not taking the time to figure out why his patients are suffering.
I learned not too long ago that almost all of the food that I was eating actually turns to acid when digested in the body. Many of these foods were suggested by my doctor as “safe foods”. Many of these doctors just don’t do the research or do not want to look into it as deeply as someone with the disease would do! I have heard many people online in forums state that their doctors have said “diet has nothing to do with it”, “just take your medicine!” They don’t know the cause because they are not looking. They are only treating your symptoms.
The cause is the food! The chemicals, preservatives, GMO’s, pesticides and unknown ingredients are the problem, but nobody wants to say it. Aside from all of these additives, there are foods that turn to acid in your system and make your symptoms worse. Here are food ingredients that I avoid so that my body remains more Alkaline:
White Sugar, Corn Syrup (anything high in sugar)
Beer, wine and alcohol – I know that’s a tough one!
There are many charts that you can look up to see if what you eat is a mostly acidic diet. If you are eating this way, it is only irritating your Crohn’s even further. When I juice 24oz daily, I am neutralizing all acid in my system and creating a calm relaxed environment in there. Alkaline = Healing Acid = Sickness/Disease
