My Natural Methods to Treat Crohn’s


It has been 8+ years now since diagnosis and I am still learning and experimenting.  I have been juicing fruits, veggies and herbs/super foods for just over 3 years straight now. My overall goal is to keep this disease from progressing and damaging my gi tract further. Up to 70% of those with Crohn’s will require surgery at some point.  I still take my Lialda medication as prescribed in addition to my natural treatments.

As I continue to include these natural treatments, I notice that I can handle a large variety of foods that I could never before.  My gi tract is not wearing itself away as in the first 2 years.  You can visually see this by looking in the toilet, which is important for anyone to do.

With that said, I practice a lot of natural treatments to get to this point.  I do this to an extent that I might be unique or thinking far differently from others with some of them.

  • The first thing is to learn about what to look out for on a nutrition label.  I am 100% convinced that certain harmful ingredients within food is harming the balance of flora.  This then causes your immune system to attack itself and to cause more imbalance.
  • I try to drink as much juice during the week as possible.  Try for 12-24oz of juice per day.  Yes this might be a lot, but surgery/doctors are expensive.
  • Try a 2-3 day Gi rest! The idea of this is to actually give your gi system a break from digesting and moving food.  This is where you only drink juice or smoothies for all meals.  I do this once a week on Sunday!
  • When all cleared out, I replace with strong probiotics and a potent green juice.  Let it all sit in your gut and repopulate/heal.

Greens

  • 1 Bunch of Mint
  • 1 Bunch of Cilantro
  • 1 Bunch of Parsley
  • 2-3 cups of Kale

Sweet Cover

  • 1/4 Pineapple
  • 2 apples
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 3-4 clementines

Super Foods+Probiotics

  • Ginger or Tumeric Root
  • Naturewise 30 strains/30 Billion Count Time Release!

A Plant Based Diet for Crohn’s


I have been experimenting with a fully raw plant based diet for about 2 weeks now and honestly I feel pretty darn good.  My doctor told me to stay away from foods like you see in the photo and I guess that is true if your insides are in bad shape.

I have been able to maintain my weight at about 160lbs with uncooked olive oil and avocado as good fat.  The calories also come from the fruit that I have in the morning for breakfast and for snacks.

The idea I am working on here is that all of these plant based foods do not activate an inflammatory immune response causing Crohn’s to flare up. I have seen a lot of research out there of foods like meat, wheat and dairy that cause the body to go on the attack for those that are sensitive.  In the process it now attacks your healthy tissue = Crohn’s Disease.  Then again there are those who will benefit from these foods and not receive any ill effects due to everyone being different in they way the process foods.

Many have changed over to this plant based diet and have seen a total turn around in their health ailments.  Just to name a few: fullyrawkristina, Joe Cross, Tracee Sloan and many others.

I am once again Crohn’s medication free and I am trying to use the food as my medicine along with juicing every other day.  I do take a small stress management medication once daily though.  This was very hard for me to do and change to every other day juicing.  I did that because I was eating so many good healing foods that I no longer need the juice every single day!  Plus I am a teacher and I am poor:)

Here is what I have been eating:

Breakfast:

  • Oatmeal almond cereal with almond milk – Not Raw
  • bananas
  • melons
  • pineapple
  • oranges/tangerines
  • apple slices
  • dates

Lunch:

  • Salad with power greens
  • avocado
  • olive oil
  • tomatoes
  • oranges
  • apple cookies with almond butter
  • bananas
  • Soaked raw cashews

Dinner:

  • Sometimes a different salad
  • Zucchini pasta with different food processor created sauces
  • Lettuce wraps with veggies

I do need more variety and I do have a few things that are not completely raw, but most of it is ALIVE.  When the food is cooked many of the nutrients and enzymes die at a certain temperature.  Although there are foods that benefit from being cooked such as tomatoes which release more Lycopene then when raw.  These are the components that you need to heal and feel great and your are not getting them in cooked food.

The overall plan is to put in foods and juice that totally create a new environment in the gi system.  Taking a probiotic to try and do that is great, but in combination with this lifestyle it should be amazing.

Lastly, I know that the food is not cooked, but it is incredibly flavorful in its natural state!

I have posted about this recipe in the past, but now it is time to bring out the big guns and go back to the juices I started with. I seem to have gotten away from creating juices with massive amounts of green chlorophyll.  I am personally starting a green juice week that may lead to a month or more.  The recipe above will be my start today, but I need to make some changes due to the produce that is available.

My adaptation: 16+ oz

  • 1 whole lemon with skin
  • 2 apples
  • 1-2 inch ginger
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 3-4 celery
  • 1/2 bunch parsley
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro
  • handful of fresh mint

This is the type of recipe that I started with over a year ago.  A recipe that is filled with chlorophyll and fights all sorts of disease, infection, overgrowth, inflammation and ulcerations.  It is time to go back to that and stick to it to help solve any inflammation that I personally have going on.

Every ingredient in this recipe has some powerful influence over anything going wrong in your body.  It is different from just creating something sweet like pineapple, orange and carrot.  The juice above is a powerhouse against inflammation that can drive Crohn’s disease and many other health problems.

Please take the time to check out Lou Corona and his 4 principles of thinking.  It truly makes a lot of sense and I wish I could follow all of his ideas, but the diet seems like a big challenge for me.  I can however make the LGB juice and take enzymes/probiotics daily to at least follow part of the plan.

Juicing for Crohns, Nutrition and Energy


The first year of daily juicing was an exciting one.  I placed myself into remission without the aid of drugs or steroids with just fruits, vegetables, supplements and probiotics.  I gave my trillions of cells exactly the type of nutrition that they needed and really felt the boost in energy that lasted all day long.

Then while not changing anything in my routine, I ended up with a bowel obstruction back in October 27.  I was baffled as to how this could have happened when everything was going so well. It wasn’t until a few months later on that I made the connection between my dog getting sick and passing away to this hospitalization.  He passed away just 2-3 weeks prior to the obstruction.  The doctor said that I had had a stress induced flare up.  My wife also reminded me that this happened with both of my children coming along.

I now take a small dose SSRI to reduce any stress that I don’t even know is there.  With being a teacher of 8 year old children, struggling with money, my dog passing and having kids of my own, I actually have a lot of stress going on.

With all of that said, I have not stopped a single day of juicing.  I believe that it can do amazing things for your gut environment and will heal your damaged gi lining. It gives me energy and boosts my immunity greatly!  It provides the ultimate nutrition when food is limited!!

Something new that I have added into my supplement routine are Turmeric pills.  I take one after dinner and it is said to be stronger than the steroid that the doctor prescribes for inflammatory response.

The Breville Ikon Juicer Review

I recently decided to trade in my Omega 8005 masticating juicer for the Breville Multi-Speed Ikon juicer.  Although the Omega was an excellent juicer for juicing greens and wheat grass, I found that I just could not digest the large amount of fiber it put into the juice.  I even strained it after and still could not get the juice completely smooth.

The Breville Ikon:  Retail $199.00

The Look: This unit is composed of stainless steel giving it a sleek look.  It provides the same materials as the Juice fountain plus. The top cover is clear so that you can see the different colors of juice being made.  The mesh basket has amazingly tiny holes to weed out the tiniest amount of pulp.  It is a very nice looking unit overall!

The Features: This juicer has a high powered motor at 900 watts.  The great part is that it has 5 speed settings for different produce.  You can juice soft berries on a number 1 and then kick it up to 5 for beets and carrots.  It also has a smart chip feature that automatically adjusts the power for harder produce.

The Juice: This unit is fast and produces quality juice.  Like I said, it takes out every speck of pulp for a very smooth digestible juice.  The juice is not overly foamy and does not seem to separate as with other juicers.  The pulp coming out is pretty dry.  It doesn’t do greens perfectly, but if you know a few tricks you can get a good amount extracted.

I am pretty impressed with this juicer and I recommend the Breville brand overall.  They have a $99.00 dollar unit, a $149 and then the Ikon for $199.  They also offer the Elite full stainless steel model, but you really don’t need to go that high to get a quality juice.

The Candida = Crohn’s Link Part 2

If you recall, I was experimenting with wheat a while back and created another imbalance that required taking supplements again of oregano and garlic.  I finished off a big juice today and some of my last supplements and got a headache an hour later.  This has been happening often as I finish up my metagenics supplements.  I am killing Candida Yeast finally and the toxins are being released!! This happened the first time before the wheat trials and I forgot about it.  I got really sick the last time with flu like symptoms.  I thought I had the stomach bug, but it wasn’t the same as others around me.  

It is really time to start looking at a highly probable cause for Crohn’s disease and other immune related ailments.  The link above begins to discuss how Candida/Yeast can play a major roll in the development of Crohn’s and how it can keep Crohn’s moving in a negative direction.  

This yeast is strong!! It affects the immune system greatly and it is difficult to get rid of.  Once it overtakes the good bacteria in the gut, you need to take drastic measures to kill it and bring the environment back to normal.  

  • Starve the Candida with a low sugar, carb, processed food diet.  These things feed the yeast!
  • Eat garlic, oregano, olive oil, green tea and coconut oil.  These destroy Candida!!
  • Take a supplement with the above key ingredients included!

Juicing and Candida

There are ingredients that you put into a juice that kill Candida Yeast.  You are also flushing in vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.  Juicing is powerful, but it does need a bit of help if you have a full blown candida overgrowth problem.  When you starve the yeast with diet and kill it off with supplements, juicing can keep the balance very nicely.  Ingredients such as carrots, bell peppers, lemons, cabbage, beets, ginger… the list goes on and on!

Start doing some research on Candida and you will see how it all seems to link together to your current Crohn’s condition.

Everything is *GREEN* Juice


Once or twice a week, I like to create a monochromatic juice including ingredients of all shades of green.  This one below is very alkalizing, detoxifying, and healing.  I will say that it needed a bit more sweet and adding an apple might have made it better tasting.  This is also loaded with chlorophyll and ingredients that are anti-inflammatory. 

All Green

  • 1 pear
  • half cucumber
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • half bunch of parsley
  • Kale
  • 1 bell pepper
  • half a lime
  • ginger

My next post should involve the benefit of wheatgrass.  I am heading out to the store to look for capsules that my wife and I can start on daily.  I know juicing wheatgrass fresh is the best, but this is just a quick supplement to the daily juicing habit and I can’t afford another juicer. 

Taking ownership of your OWN health!!


It certainly seems that if you want to get back to great health and actually heal yourself from Crohn’s or other immune diseases, than you need to take ownership of your own health.  The doctors who told me years ago that diet and antibiotics have nothing to do with the development of Crohn’s are just simply out of their minds or they simply do not know.  Yes they are very smart and I am no where near being a doctor, but they are not looking into the cause and do not want to look either.  Look anywhere and you will find that many doctors do not take nutrition courses in their schooling. 

It is not profitable to cure people, but to keep them comfortable with life long medication. 

Here is a great article about the harmful effects of wheat/gluten and its link to autoimmune disease.  It was a good summary of what I have known and really tells me to give it up completely and never go back!

  5. A solid probiotic!!!

Oregano Oil: Prejuicing Treatment


After running this blog for about 7 months now, I have become aware that some individuals with Crohn’s or Colitis may not fully heal by just adding juicing daily and switching their diet up. The one difference between these individuals and myself is that I did a cleansing program a month before to kill off harmful bacteria, candida, fungi, and other pathogens while leaving behind the helpful flora.

How did I do that without taking an antibiotic?? I took oil of oregano pills that were suggested from my alternative therapy doctor. The real name was Candibactin AR from Metagenics. Now you do not need to get this specific one, but try to find one that is pure or has testing data to back it up. I also took a bunch of other intestinal cleaners in addition to this and you can find that on a past blog article.

This supplement is a natural antibiotic and doesn’t kill everything in your gi tract like your typical antibiotic. It only seeks out the harmful overgrowth and leaves the beneficial bacteria alone.

Now that you have killed the harmful bacteria that is causing the imbalance and offsetting your immune system, you then add juicing to flush the body with prebiotics, vitamins, phytonutrients, enzymes and essential healing oils.

It is certainly worth looking into and makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Processed food/drinks–>creates imbalance–>overgrowth of harmful bacteria–>immune system attacks everything–>inflammation from the attack–>good bacteria over-taken–>immune system keeps attacking = endless cycle.

Heal Crohn’s Naturally for good!!!


This explains everything that I have been trying to teach on this blog for 8 months all in one short video!!! It talks about diet, killing off harmful bacteria, correcting the imbalance and healing your gi system. This woman is the real deal and what she speaks about works. I know this because I have done everything she talks about in my own way.

I found it funny that my doctor had me on the very same program through Metagenics and I took the very same supplements and diet restrictions.

I took a different route to healing and rebuilding through juicing however, but we both began in the same way.
