It is that time again, where many want to set a resolution for the new year. I always get the same question around this time: How do I get started? I thought I would make a quick guide to help anyone get started. Now this shouldn’t be just a quick resolution, so aim for at least a full year of juicing/cleansing. I am on year 3 and I do not plan to stop as I feel it is just part of my daily life now.
Step#1: Buy a good juicer that makes this easy!
The Breville Juice Fountain: The most powerful, fast and easy juicer out there! Put a baggie in the catcher, rinse off the parts when done. Scrub just the blade/mesh basket with soap and water. Done!
The article link above provides some excellent information on how to check your colon health and to keep it as healthy as possible. I do a beet transit test each Sunday as part of my mock fecal transplant therapy that I have posted about many times.
For a normal human you should start to see beet red stool after about 18-24 hours of consuming it. When you have cleansed everything out as I have mentioned before, you see that much faster and you know you are now clear.
This test can tell you a lot of things.
If you never see the beets: you are really constipated and slow moving in the gi.
If you see it too quickly and you have not cleansed, you have IBS-D active.
If you see it in about 12+ hours, you are doing pretty well.
Here is my recipe for today and it was pretty tasty also:
Beet Transit Juice + Choice probiotic
3 small/med beets
1/2 bag cranberries
Coconut water to taste
Please consider the weekly cleanse. I cleanse out with herbal and PH water. I drink this juice and take probiotics to reseed the gi tract.
I made this mixture up while up in NY visiting family. It started out as a juice for thinning blood and preventing blood clots. It then turned into something that tasted amazing and will pretty much treat any possible health concern you might have. I made this for myself and my parents so you might want to cut some of these ingredients in half. The beet controls the color of this juice and should show you how fast your digestive system works. You should see beet in about 12-24 hours if your system is running smoothly – haha.

When I am creating a new recipe I am usually thinking 90% for health and how it will lead to even greater health down the line. This leaves 10% for taste and I don’t really care about the taste if it is super healthy. All recipes that I post on this blog site are for the most part tasty enough for the general public – haha. With that said, here is another super tasty/good for you mix I created today. This is a really good one!! I focused on the taste while putting it together and then looked up all the health benefits that you see below afterward.
1 peeled kiwi – Immunity, fatigue, ulcers
1 pear – Anti-inflammatory, Cancer prevention, Immunity, colon health, fatigue
2 peeled oranges – Immunity, ulcers, fatigue, prevent cancer cells
3 carrots – Alkaline, cancer fighter, anti-inflammatory, ulcer healer, fatigue
1/2 bulb fennel – Cancer fighter, gas fighter, digestion
1 bell pepper – Antibacterial, anti-fungal, cancer prevention, immunity, blood clot prevention
1 inch ginger – Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, fatigue, immunity, gas pains
Well I learned today that even when you are thinking about taste to create a recipe, the health is always there no matter what. Give this one a try. It creates a large amount of juice so you can cut it in half if you wish.

Cool Tip: I thought about this idea today and I am sure others have figured this one out before. I love to add coconut water to my juice to both smooth it out and cool it down. I thought why not just pour the coconut water directly into an ice cube tray. It will add a bit of extra sweetness to your juice to cover possible bitterness and cool the juice down without watering it down. Coconut water also has electrolytes and works better than Gatorade to provide hydration to the body.
My original goal for juicing was to heal my body of Crohn’s and get off of all medication and I have accomplished that. Why not stop the daily juicing habit then?
Just in the past few days I have heard of so many different individuals with various forms of cancer or disease that it really has inspired me to write this post. With each story that I hear it only fuels my desire to juice fresh fruits, vegetable and herbs every day forward. It has now become my preventative for other problems that come along the way and I’m not stopping!!.

It is the one easy habit to mix into your day that could prevent something very serious down the road. If I would have known about this 10 years ago, I would not have had Crohn’s and this website would not exist.
After a trip to get Mexican for lunch, I went right out and created a deep detox drink. The food was great don’t get me wrong, but new food always makes me nervous after being so careful for 5+ years. This mix is only for the brave however who juice for health. It was ok on taste, but not for the newbie juicer. Here are the ingredients:
Deep Red Detox
1 large beet peeled
1 bunch cilantro
1 bunch parsley
1 large pear
1 whole lemon with skin
3 leaves collard greens
2 inch ginger
3 stalks of celery
This mix is a major combo for cleansing, killing bacteria, energy and rebuilding damaged tissue. Give it a try and if you want to sweeten it up, just add a couple of apples.
This post is dedicated to my 3rd grade students who got a chance to try some fresh juice today. I wish them all of the best in everything that they do. I hope that they take with them some of the healthy ideas that we discussed throughout the year so that they never have to go down the path that I took because of unhealthy eating. **I have had a few comments on what to do for IBS, so this is for you!**
Juicing can work wonders for those with IBS. I would know because I was also diagnosed with IBS along with Crohn’s. They seem to come together these days.
The first thing you need to do is look at your diet and eliminate trigger foods. This is different for everyone so I will not bother with a list of foods to avoid. Even if you juice the most amazing combinations, a trigger food will still cause you problems until you fully heal.
The second thing you need to look at is how much fiber you eat per day. With IBS you need to think opposite of everyone else. When you have this problem your colon has no problem at all moving things along. In fact, for some people it is constantly moving. When you eat fiber it helps to increase this motion and you will basically live in the bathroom. I take Metamucil original coarse without the flavor and the yellow 6 as my daily fiber.
The final thing you need to do is add some great juice combinations. These would contain items that soothe the digestive tract. Here are some ingredients that help to soothe the digestive tract, heal the lining and stop the production of mucus: Carrots, Cabbage, Beets, Fennel, Parsley, Kale, Cilantro, Spinach, Bell Peppers and Ginger.
