Juicing: its role in Crohn’s

Back a year ago, I was excited to tell people I “had”(past tense) Crohn’s, that I healed it.  I did do this through juicing, diet and supplements, but I have learned unfortunately that it will always be there.  Little things like not sleeping enough, a bad diet choice and stress – (a BIG one!) can get it to flare up again.  Stress did this for me and I am having a tough time getting this under control presently.

Everything that I have written about as far as healing Crohn’s,  I still believe to be true.  I think when you juice raw organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and super foods you heal the damage Crohn’s inflammation has done.  It’s the strength of the immune system that attacks the good healthy parts, that is the mystery here.  Is it genetic that our immune systems are on overload? Is it the lack of a certain vitamin or the overgrowth of good to bad bacteria?

The one thing that I do know is that the true role of juicing for crohn’s is ultimate nutrition in one glass.  I am not trying to fight inflammation or bacteria overgrowth anymore.  I am looking to provide the maximum most potent vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and prebiotics to a body that cannot eat that food.  If you provide this nutrition daily, then you have a better/very good chance to suppress Crohn’s and put it into remission.

My diet at this point consists of soft and very digestible foods.  I tried the vegan diet and my body could not break down the salads and fiber.  For me it most likely got stuck causing the last obstruction I had.  I was not happy with this because that diet was so super healthy along with juicing and I felt great!

I still believe that drinking as much raw juice as possible can play a key role in placing you into remission.  You also need to eat foods like garlic to keep the bacteria in check.  You also need to take your medication as directed.  I learned this the hard way 2x, but hey I was being hopeful!!

I drink about 24oz+ of juice 1x per day and I get all the nutrition I am missing.  It is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, nutrient dense, energizing and anti-cancer as well.  I take my medicine as I am told to now!  I take a liquid vitamin because I can’t absorb vit B and D very well – who knew!!:)

Now, if you don’t juice like this and you eat a diet void of fruits, veggies and herbs, how are you preparing your body to fight the inflammation or harmful bacteria if you cannot actually eat the food?

  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1 beet
  • Kale
  • Lemon
  • Ginger

I have posted about this recipe in the past, but now it is time to bring out the big guns and go back to the juices I started with. I seem to have gotten away from creating juices with massive amounts of green chlorophyll.  I am personally starting a green juice week that may lead to a month or more.  The recipe above will be my start today, but I need to make some changes due to the produce that is available.

My adaptation: 16+ oz

  • 1 whole lemon with skin
  • 2 apples
  • 1-2 inch ginger
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 3-4 celery
  • 1/2 bunch parsley
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro
  • handful of fresh mint

This is the type of recipe that I started with over a year ago.  A recipe that is filled with chlorophyll and fights all sorts of disease, infection, overgrowth, inflammation and ulcerations.  It is time to go back to that and stick to it to help solve any inflammation that I personally have going on.

Every ingredient in this recipe has some powerful influence over anything going wrong in your body.  It is different from just creating something sweet like pineapple, orange and carrot.  The juice above is a powerhouse against inflammation that can drive Crohn’s disease and many other health problems.

Please take the time to check out Lou Corona and his 4 principles of thinking.  It truly makes a lot of sense and I wish I could follow all of his ideas, but the diet seems like a big challenge for me.  I can however make the LGB juice and take enzymes/probiotics daily to at least follow part of the plan.

Super Food Crohn’s Healing Juice!

I have just created a green juice that is composed of some of the most powerful foods on the planet and it ended up tasting great too!  This is so incredibly healing and anti-inflammatory that I might even call it a cure all!

This is the Super Food Green Juice Recipe:   **For Advanced juicers who are already detoxed**

  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Lemon with skin
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 1/2 green bell pepper
  • 1 cup of pineapple chunks
  • 1-2 inch of Turmeric
  • 2 leaves Kale
  • 1 bunch watercress
  • 1/2 bunch cilantro
  • 1/2 bunch parsley

The Water Base:  Celery, Bell Pepper

The Sweet to cover bitters: Apple, Lemon and Pineapple

The Power Greens:  Kale, Cilantro and Parsley

The Super Foods:  Turmeric and Watercress

The Water Base:  The celery in this mixture helps in digestion over time.  I just learned that it helps to increase digestive stomach acids to help breakdown your food for better assimilation of nutrients.  The bell pepper is anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-fungal.  Both provide the juice with a good amount of water for hydration.

The Sweet:  The apple in this mixture provides the drink with some soluble fiber and helps to detox the colon.  The lemon is anti-inflammatory and alkalizing.  The pineapple contains a digestive enzyme to help in the digestive process.  All three of these are used to cover up the bitter taste of the greens.  The pineapple does a great job at this.

The Power Greens:  The kale, cilantro and parsley contain a ton of chlorophyll.  This helps to kill the imbalance of bacteria in your gut that drives Crohn’s.  All three are anti-inflammatory and amazing healers.  These three are also energizing and provide mental clarity.  I could go on and on about them…

The Super Foods:  Turmeric and Watercress are at the top of the most nutrient dense food list.  Turmeric is the most anti-inflammatory food/substance in the world.  It far exceeds any drug used for inflammation.  It is a cancer destroyer as well. The watercress is the #1 super food on the planet.  It is the most nutrient dense food you can consume and has too many benefits to list.

In conclusion:  This drink has everything you need and more to reverse the damage that Crohn’s has done to you.  I know it works after doing this for about 1 full year and giving up medication shortly after starting.  The juices from these foods are medicine!  You need to think of them as medicine and not just a drink you have with meals. They don’t always taste awesome, but it is not about that.  It is about doing something to finally heal your problem and not just manage or cover it up.

Taking Charge of your Own Crohn’s Managment

The more I think about all that I have learned in this past year, the more anger I feel toward the medical establishment and how they have not taught me any of what I know today.  I would still be swallowing handfuls of expensive bright blue pills daily with expensive visits to the specialist. I might even have had surgery at this point!  I am so thankful I chose to take the natural path through Dr. Gotro and began a 20 day juicing challenge just about 1 year ago.  I am also thankful that I stumbled upon a random youtube video that sparked my knowledge about what is in our food, so that I could prevent my family from harmful toxic ingredients.

(I think the medical route is necessary, but I think they are simply keeping us just well enough to keep coming back.)

Thus begins my rant on the medical establishment as I think of these questions : Why didn’t they inform me of all of this? Why don’t they know?

By taking full control of my own health I learned:

  • My Crohn’s medication was simply covering the problem and not treating the real issue.
  • My Crohn’s medication in time would poke tiny holes in my Gi tract, creating leaky gut – Seriously look it up!
  • Juicing is a way to get essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients in your body without too much fiber.
  • Juicing certain ingredients heals the damage from Crohn’s.
  • Juicing cabbage and other ingredients heals ulcers in the Gi tract.
  • Juicing turns an acidic body into one that is alkaline.
  • Disease cannot live in an alkaline body.
  • Juicing kills bacteria, yeast and allows the good bacteria to flourish.
  • Juicing detoxes your entire body.
  • Juicing kills cancer cells and stops others from growing because of alkalinity.
  • Juicing regulates the bowels for better elimination.
  • Juicing is highly anti-inflammatory and way more effective than prescription drugs.
  • Juicing improves my energy level.
  • Juicing improves my mental clarity.
  • Juicing improves my eye site.
  • Certain probiotic strains are needed in those with Crohn’s or IBS.
  • Digestive enzymes are needed in those with Crohn’s to effectively break down food.
  • Oil of Oregano kills harmful bacteria and yeast to restore the balance of the microbiome.
  • Coconut oil kills candida yeast.
  • Garlic is a major bug killer in your Gi tract.
  • Our food which is filled with immune altering chemicals, is the reason for Crohn’s to develop.
  • I do not digest nuts well due to low stomach acid (the beet test).  Corrected with HCL and enzymes!! 
  • Lastly, the balance of the Microbiome is the key to reversing Crohn’s. 

None of the above was ever discussed with me on any visit to my doctor or specialist and that makes me so angry and also worried for others.  I learned all of this and more in just 1 year of investigation, self-testing and discussions with others.  I will continue to learn and spread the word. I hope that others decide to look past the brainwashing and try some of my methods that have worked so well for me.  Thank you and end of rant:)

Over the years: Lessons Learned

I always wish that I could go back 5 years ago and tell myself that the very food that I was avoiding could have healed me.  It was right in front of my face that whole time.  I was told to watch my fiber intake and I avoided fruits/veggies like the plague.  It is true that the fiber can aggravate Crohn’s/IBS.  I also wonder why one day the idea of juicing these foods just came to me out of nowhere.  Just at this time, there was a 20 day juice challenge as well.  This led me to health, the decrease in medicine and then led me to create this blog to share with others who have not gotten “the idea” yet.  The mind and body are truly amazing things and they have the power to heal themselves.  We rely so much on drugs to help and they sometimes do more harm than good. 

What have I learned about Crohn’s / IBS:

  • The food we eat causes the imbalance of bacteria
  • The imbalance of bacteria is related to the immune response
  • Crohn’s is related to an overactive immune response
  • The bad bacteria takes over and an endless cycle begins
  • Crohn’s is a growing problem in the processed food world
  • Juicing takes the fiber out and leaves enzymes that those with Crohn’s have lost
  • Juicing replaces vitamins that have been lost
  • Juicing restores the good bacteria and cleanses out the bad
  • Juicing rebuilds the lining of the intestine and helps the body to then absorb nutrients. 
  • Juicing is natural medicine
