Resolution Time 2017

It is that time again, where many want to set a resolution for the new year.  I always get the same question around this time: How do I get started?  I thought I would make a quick guide to help anyone get started.  Now this shouldn’t be just a quick resolution, so aim for at least a full year of juicing/cleansing.  I am on year 3 and I do not plan to stop as I feel it is just part of my daily life now.

Step#1: Buy a good juicer that makes this easy!

The Breville Juice Fountain: The most powerful, fast and easy juicer out there! Put a baggie in the catcher, rinse off the parts when done.  Scrub just the blade/mesh basket with soap and water. Done!

Step #2:  Sign up for the FREE 30 day juicing challenge.  Tracee gives you free shopping lists and daily recipes that start out easy.  Toward the end, you get into the more advanced juices.

Step#3: Watch every video from Dan Mcdonald, Jay Kordich, Rawfully Kristina and Jason Vale.  These people are very inspirational and provide great tips, recipes and health information.

Step #4: (Optional Cleansing)

**The Beet Transit Test**

The article link above provides some excellent information on how to check your colon health and to keep it as healthy as possible.  I do a beet transit test each Sunday as part of my mock fecal transplant therapy that I have posted about many times.

For a normal human you should start to see beet red stool after about 18-24 hours of consuming it.  When you have cleansed everything out as I have mentioned before, you see that much faster and you know you are now clear.

This test can tell you a lot of things.

  1. If you never see the beets: you are really constipated and slow moving in the gi.
  2. If you see it too quickly and you have not cleansed, you have IBS-D active.
  3. If you see it in about 12+ hours, you are doing pretty well.

Here is my recipe for today and it was pretty tasty also:

Beet Transit Juice + Choice probiotic

  • 3 small/med beets
  • 3 apples
  • 1/2 bag cranberries
  • 1/2 lemon
  • Coconut water to taste

Please consider the weekly cleanse.  I cleanse out with herbal and PH water.  I drink this juice and take probiotics to reseed the gi tract.

Have a great week ahead :):)

***Power Greens Juice***

Power Greens Variation:

  • 2 apples
  • 1 beet
  • 2 handfuls spinach
  • 2 handfuls Kale
  • 1/4 Pineapple
  • 1/2 Lemon with skin
  • 4 Celery spears
  • 1 inch ginger

This recipe comes off of my Android app with some added ingredients to add even more power.  I added the lemon to help cover the Kale and the Pineapple to sweeten some of the bitter flavors.

Here are the conditions that this mixture is great for:

Digestions, Diverticular Disease, Hemmorhoids, Indigestion, Fertility, IBD(Colitis and Crohns), Low Libido, Memory, Migrains, Circulation, Prostate Enlargement, Skin and many others.

This was quite a powerful one and not really for beginners.

Crohn’s: Fueled by Food/Antibiotics?

We are always looking to figure out why we have this disease.  Where did it come from and what caused it? It is not new news that Crohn’s has increased greatly in the last 10-20 years.  The article above seems to place the blame on overuse of antibiotics as children and junk food/processed food.  Both of these impact the balance of good and bad bacteria.

It also mentions environmental factors and genetics.  I do believe that genetics plays a big roll here, but to have such a sharp increase over the last 10 years sort of cancels out the genetic factor for most people.  We turn to look at the food and drug use with that fact in mind.

If our bacteria balance is truly a major factor in the increase of Crohn’s, how do we completely overturn it and keep it that way??

If anyone knows the answer to this question, please chime in and help us out?? So far I have been able to do this to some extent with juicing, antibiotic foods like garlic and oregano and fermented foods.

I think good vs bad bacteria is a very good option for treatment considering the success with high potency probiotics (VSL#3).  This is a treatment, but it does not permanently fix the imbalance.

There almost needs to be a sequence where you cleanse out everything like a colonoscopy.  Next, kill all bacteria with natural methods and then add in large amounts of good bacteria.  After this is done eat food that will keep the bacteria in check and that should induce full remission.

I am still looking for a perfect way to do this, but so far there is no way to keep the balance of bacteria in check forever. It seems like just taking a probiotic is just not enough.

Here is what I would like to try:  I would do a full colonoscopy prep to cleanse everything out.  Next, take flagyl for 2 weeks to a month to kill everything.  Next VSL#3 and juicing daily to repopulate.  I think that would be a good option, but it’s getting the doctor to prescribe the drug and the cost of the VSL#3 that stops me.

Also, I get myself in trouble to doing things not suggested by my doc ,but sometimes it pays off.

Juicing: its role in Crohn’s

Back a year ago, I was excited to tell people I “had”(past tense) Crohn’s, that I healed it.  I did do this through juicing, diet and supplements, but I have learned unfortunately that it will always be there.  Little things like not sleeping enough, a bad diet choice and stress – (a BIG one!) can get it to flare up again.  Stress did this for me and I am having a tough time getting this under control presently.

Everything that I have written about as far as healing Crohn’s,  I still believe to be true.  I think when you juice raw organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and super foods you heal the damage Crohn’s inflammation has done.  It’s the strength of the immune system that attacks the good healthy parts, that is the mystery here.  Is it genetic that our immune systems are on overload? Is it the lack of a certain vitamin or the overgrowth of good to bad bacteria?

The one thing that I do know is that the true role of juicing for crohn’s is ultimate nutrition in one glass.  I am not trying to fight inflammation or bacteria overgrowth anymore.  I am looking to provide the maximum most potent vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and prebiotics to a body that cannot eat that food.  If you provide this nutrition daily, then you have a better/very good chance to suppress Crohn’s and put it into remission.

My diet at this point consists of soft and very digestible foods.  I tried the vegan diet and my body could not break down the salads and fiber.  For me it most likely got stuck causing the last obstruction I had.  I was not happy with this because that diet was so super healthy along with juicing and I felt great!

I still believe that drinking as much raw juice as possible can play a key role in placing you into remission.  You also need to eat foods like garlic to keep the bacteria in check.  You also need to take your medication as directed.  I learned this the hard way 2x, but hey I was being hopeful!!

I drink about 24oz+ of juice 1x per day and I get all the nutrition I am missing.  It is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, nutrient dense, energizing and anti-cancer as well.  I take my medicine as I am told to now!  I take a liquid vitamin because I can’t absorb vit B and D very well – who knew!!:)

Now, if you don’t juice like this and you eat a diet void of fruits, veggies and herbs, how are you preparing your body to fight the inflammation or harmful bacteria if you cannot actually eat the food?

My go to juice:

  • 2 apples
  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1 beet
  • Kale
  • Lemon
  • Ginger

Enjoy your day everyone!:)

This is quite a good one folks!! The flavor is sweet and color is pretty awesome.  The benefits are through the roof on this one as it is highly alkaline from the watermelon and lemon.  The other ingredients are all anti-inflammatory.  This was just a very good one for taste and health.  Give it a try!  It made a lot of juice too:)

Energy Through Hydration

  • 2 cups watermelon
  • 1 orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1/2 fennel bulb
  • 1/4 pineapple

Lifestyle changes: The Juice Remains the Same

It has been quite a year!  My 10th year of teaching was supposed to be a positive milestone, but I just didn’t have the best feeling about it going in for some reason.  I had been juicing non-stop daily for over a year with zero medications and then stress hit and I had no idea what a factor it really was.  As my poor puppy Cooper was getting sick, I had all that stress internalized and the juice and diet just could not deal with it.  Hospitalization #1 was due to Cooper passing and stress at work.

To prevent another hospitalization I juiced more and took Lexapro for the stress and that really helped greatly at work. The 1st hospitalization from stress would not be the last unfortunately and did not completely resolve itself as I did not like taking medication again.

Hospitalization #2 taught me that I needed to take my medication and stop self treating! Not so much for me, but for my family who has to deal with me:)

I now take predisone for a small amount of time until the doctor makes the decision to wean me off.  He will replace that with a long term medication that I will take as directed!

The diet is all soft and not that full of nutrients like the vegan diet I sampled for over 2 months.  This is where juicing comes in along with a liquid vitamin for nutrition.

Since my diet is lacking nutrition, I need/must add the juice in everyday at about 24-32+oz.  I need to take my medication to prevent these unknown situations, but I need to provide a healthy gut and juicing will do that for me.

In summation, do what works for you and adapt as needed.  You must find a way to get rapid nutrition in so that your body is super strong to allow healing to happen.  The juicing remains the same and I hope always will.  Get that juice in you and start to feel the difference in energy, mood and feeling.  Take care!:)

Today’ Recipe: It’s All Green

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2-3 celery
  • 1 lemon whole
  • 1/4 pineapple
  • 2 apples
  • KALE
  • Ginger

So what have we learned??

To start off, it’s great to be hopeful.  There is nothing wrong with being hopeful that the doctors might be wrong and medication is not needed for these issues at all.  Now this got me into trouble and I am realizing that Crohn’s is quite a complex issue. A combination is needed of medical and natural treatments.

I believed so strongly that if I put foods and drink into my system that are 100% healing, my body would not react to it and get inflamed.  Sounds pretty logical, but again I am not a doctor and I am working on hope here that I am right.

Why do I need medicine? I think the medicine is truly needed to keep the unknown away.  Why is the inflammation still happening and I don’t think we really know.  I also think everyone is completely different like a fingerprint.  It could be stress for one, bacteria overgrowth for another and sleep of all things for another.  We need the medicine for the unknown.

Why do I need the raw juice? Now this one I will never stop!  As long as I am able to put this down my throat or IV -haha. This is needed to give you all the vitamins, nutrients and everything your missing by being so careful with diet.  This gives every cell what it needs to help your body stay in tip top condition and heal.  I feel this needs to be prescribed by doctors if it could be.

Why do I need a balanced diet? This is the hardest one by far.  I have struggled with this for far too long and I simply hate it.  I don’t think many really understand how hard this truly is for me.  This is so individualized that it is pretty much impossible to discuss it.  For me I would like to eat a balanced diet and one that would digest very easily.  This means that I would avoid raw foods that are hard to break down and this is why you need the raw juice above!  The juice is going to fill in the gaps of the diet.  I just love it and I don’t care if it takes long to make and clean up.  Who cares!:)

When I get out of here today I will be taking my medicine as directed!  I will be making a juice at some point today and I will still struggle to question every bit of food going in.  It is going to be a daily struggle as usual, but I think i’m up for it.

Take care and keep the tips rolling in.  Some little tip might help somebody out there and give them a moment of relief:)

**When the Meds stop working**

I have tried all forms of treatment and none of them seem to be working, what do I do now?

This statement above comes from countless blogs, forums and comment sections from the web.  The medical response to this question is surgery to remove parts affected or even the entire colon.  This never really solves the problem since Crohn’s can affect from your mouth all the way through.  Even after this final procedure the medical suggestion is to resume your normal diet!  That is just so crazy to me because this normal diet has gotten you sick in the first place.

First, I am going to tell you what I have experienced recently from juicing and finally switching to a raw vegan diet and then I will go into the steps you need to take to really heal and give your body what it needs.

I have been having pains/aches from the front under my left rib to the back under my shoulder blade.  The doctor told me to take miralax 2x daily for the rest of my life.  This relieved the pains for the most part, but they were still there.  I was also prescribed a steroid and pentasa again, but they did not seem to make much of a difference.  I finally got fed up with all of it after watching a video of a man who tried out juicing and raw vegan eating.  He said just do it and I did!

The doctors said to stay away from the food I was about to eat all day long – raw fruits and veggies.  I started and I am now on day 7.  I have stopped the miralax because that ache/pain is gone.  I have decreased the steroid and I am weaning off. I have decreased the pentasa from 8 pills to 4 and I intend to wean that off completely.  This change seemed to help very quickly compared to the few months of pills.

My end goal is to take ZERO pills of any kind.  I plan to be off prescription drugs, vitamins and even probiotics.  My goal is to get all that I need from the food and juices.  With that said, here is what you need to do to make some major changes and get your health back.

  1. Get rid of all processed foods:  This food got you sick in the first place for those who are sensitive to it.  All of the chemicals, preservatives, sugar, GMO’s and other unrecognizable ingredients have destroyed your gut flora and rewired your immune system to attack your body.  The body actually creates an inflammatory response to certain foods and ingredients.
  2. Eat more raw living foods:  When you eat foods that are alive and not cooked, you get live probiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamins, minerals, fiber, phytonutrients and other components that your body needs to heal.
  3. Drink one raw juice daily:  When you drink one juice daily, you are getting the same thing from the raw foods but it is 100% digestible and your body does very little work to process it.  Refer to my 100’s of posts on juicing for info on that one – 🙂

Crohn’s has caused a complete life change for me, but I do not believe that change needs to be filled with meds and surgery.  I think to get out of the endless cycle I need and you need to make a major change.  This is not easy and it takes pure drive and determination.  It is your choice when the meds stop working for you… = Fully Raw Kristina with recipes and videos – I started here for ideas. = Get started juicing with Jason! = Learn about what is in your food.
